An American and a Canadian were gored and several other people suffered minor injuries yesterday as wet weather added extra hazard to the third day of Pamplona's renowned bull-running festival. The tally of injured was low despite the slippery surface of the cobbled streets which caused many of those running alongside the bulls to fall. One of the bulls also fell and had difficulty getting up again. The early morning bull run is the daily highlight of Pamplona's nine-day San Fermin festival. There were two who suffered horn injuries and we've also had to treat a lot of people for what are just falls, Rafa Cortijo, a Red Cross official, told state television. A spokesman for the regional government of Navarre identified the two men gored as James Shephard Skiff, a 19-year-old American, and Jonathan Massie, 24, from Canada. Both men were gored in the leg but neither injury was considered very serious, the spokesman said. An American woman, Jennifer Smith, who suffered a deep thigh goring in Saturday's run, has been moved from intensive care to a normal hospital ward after her condition improved, he added. Officials described Saturday's run as the most dangerous in recent years. Six bulls, accompanied by a similar number of ordinary steers, set off each morning on an 825-metre (half-mile) stampede from a corral in the old town to the city bull ring where they are killed by matadors later in the day.
