THE coach driver´s strike was going ahead last night after last ditch talks failebroke down. the strike is due to start at midnight tonight and last until Sunday. The local minister for Transport Eberhard Grosske had called the warring sides together at meeting earlier this morning but no accord was reached. Up to 350'000 tourists will be affected by the three day stoppage goes ahead this weekend. The coach drivers have voted for strike action to press for better pay and working condition. The airport authorities say that they will have no alternative but to close the airport at midday on Saturday if the strikes continue. The local tourist industry, already facing a drop in holiday bookings, claims the strike could cost the local economy 10'000 million pesetas, an estimated 50 million pounds.
