New era for ferries to the mainland

Shipping company Trasmediterránea hopes to increase its number of passengers this year by 20 per cent, in comparison to 2000, with the introduction of the two new luxury ferries which were unveiled in Valencia yesterday. The two “twin” ferries built at a cost of 13.200 million pesetas were brought into operation between Valencia, Barcelona and the Balearics last month. Trasmediterránea president, Miguel Angel Fernández Villamandos, said yesterday that the two new ferries Sorolla and Fortuny have boosted capacity by 1'000 passengers and reduced sailing times between Palma, Valencia and Barcelona to just two hours.
