The Secretary of State for Tourism, Juan José Guemes, gave his assurances in Palma yesterday that the key to the future of the Balearics' tourist industry is quality, diversification of the markets and continuing to offer good value for money. Attending a conference about the single currency, Guemes said that the Spanish tourist industry's competition will continue being the same in the future as it is now and does not depend on the rise of fall of currencies. But while there are concerns in the UK about the pound joining the euro mechanism, Guemes does not foresee any disadvantages.
