Last year the Red Cross in Palma advised and helped 81 per cent more immigrants than in 1999 and yesterday the Red Cross and the City Council agreed to boost their information and help services for immigrants. A new office has also been opened in order to help the capital's immigrant population, which the city council said yesterday, is made up of around 25'000 people. The accord was signed yesterday by the Mayor of Palma, Joan Fageda and the President of the Red Cross in the Balearics, Gerard Bonet. The new office is staffed by professionals and will also act as an intermediary in helping immigrants find accommodation in Palma - one of their biggest problems.
