An American tourist died and three persons were seriously injured when the vehicle in which they were travelling was involved in a head-on collision with a delivery van in Santa Maria. A spokesman for the Soller fire brigade said that they received the call shortly after 1pm. The Guardia Civil and paramedics were also called out to the scene of the accident, which occurred on the Santa Maria to Bunyola road. When they arrived, the woman was already dead, sources say. According to the police, the driver of the van lost control on the wet surface and went into the opposite lane. The other driver had no room to manoeuvre as the road is narrow. The firemen put sand on the road to prevent further accidents as both vehicles had lost oil, which combined with the mud and the rain made the road slippery.
