An exhibition showing the history of Chinese ceramics, from the neolithic period to the last Manchu dynasty in the 18th century, can now be seen at the Fundació La Caixa in Palma's Plaza Weyler. The exhibition is entitled China, Heaven and Earth, and it features 222 pieces on loan from the Guimet Museum of Paris. The curator of the exhibition, Jean-Paul Desroches, said yesterday that it shows the social and political evolution of China over a period of 6'000 years. It is divided into seven sections, each with architectural elements characteristic of the period, such as a farmer's hut or a tea house. The first section shows neolithic ceramics of the Yangshao (5000 BC) and Longshan (2000-300 BC) cultures. To complement the exhibition the Foundation has organised a series of lectures by experts in Asiatic art and educational activities for school groups and the general public. The exhibition will be open until July 1. The Foundation is in the former Gran Hotel building and visiting times are 10am to 9pm, Sundays and holidays from 10am to 2pm, closed Mondays.
