Andratx Local Police and the Guardia Civil were yesterday looking for a man with a bandaged arm in connection with a break-in at the luxury home of German super model Claudia Schiffer in Camp de Mar on Sunday afternoon. Fortunately for the model/actress, she was not on the island, but her mother Gundrum is currently staying at the villa. Police believe that she scared the thief off after disturbing him, and possibly seeing him, on her return from a long walk. Claudia Schiffer's mother left the house for a walk at 2pm and when she returned at 6.30pm found a white Renault 5 parked outside the main gate to the small estate on which they live. When Gudrum got up to the house, she noticed that one of the glass doors on the pool terrace had been smashed and that inside, a curtain had been pulled down and used to try and clean the blood from a wound the thief is suspected to have suffered as he broke a chain by the pool to smash the window. The mother apparently found more blood in the kitchen, where the thief had tried to wash the cut in the sink and clean the gash with a tea towel. According to police sources, there was also blood in one of the bedrooms. It still remains unclear if anything was stolen, but the cost of repairing the damage has been estimated at 175'000 pesetas. Yesterday police and forensic experts returned to the scene in the hunt for clues. The Renault 5 has been confiscated by police. The vehicle is registered in a woman's name and police suspect that the husband could be their man.
