Carnage returned to Majorca's roads yesterday when a 33-year-old man was killed after being involved in a head-on collision along the Manacor road at the Son Macia crossroad, one of the island's worst black spots. Juan Miguel Pieras Navarro, a former musician, was accompanied by a young man and his one-year-old daughter, who both miraculously escaped with their lives. The accident occurred at 11.50 am when the Ford Fiesta driven by the victim, collided head-on with a Seat Cordoba. Witnesses said that the impact of the crash was immense. According to the Guardia Civil, one of the vehicles strayed across the central reservation and into the path of the on-coming vehicle. A number of drivers rushed to try and help the victims, but the 33-year-old was trapped in the wreckage and had died by the time the emergency services had quickly reached the scene. The 29-year-old driver of the Seat Cordoba, was rushed to hospital suffering from head injuries. Police said that had the victim's one-year-old daughter not been strapped in to her rear baby seat, she would have lost her life. A second person died in another car crash in Ibiza yesterday when two cars collided along the main road from San Jose to Ibiza town.
