This week the Bulletin will be in Madrid covering a number of major issues, events and interviewing two key Britons who both play very important roles in Spain - one in the British Embassy and the other on the pitch for Real Madrid. Madrid this week is also playing host to Spain's biggest annual travel fair which attracts thousands of exhibitors and professionals from across the world. The FITUR fair will be officially opened by Prince Felipe of Spain on Tuesday and the Balearic tourist industry will have a large presence as usual. This year the two main aims will be to bolster the summer season, which is under threat from competing Eastern Mediterranean and North African countries and try, again, to get the winter tourist industry off the ground. Tuesday night also sees the Australian Foreign Minister Alexander Downer hold a joint press conference with his Spanish counterpart, Foreign Minister Josep Pique, and the main topic on the agenda will be Australia's most wanted man, the Andratx-based Christopher Skase. The Oxford-educated Alexander Downer said yesterday that he wants to resolve the Skase case during his brief visit to Spain. The Bulletin will also be interviewing the British Ambassador Peter Torry at the Embassy. The Bulletin hopes to discuss with the Ambassador the latest developments for expatriate s living in Spain, further developments for pensioners, the Red Cross's decision to ban Britons from giving blood, the Tireless and Spain's strengthening relations with Britain. Real Madrid football star Steve McManaman is also to be the subject of an interview and tour of Santiago Bernabeu, Real Madrid's historic stadium. McManaman, who has recently bought a luxury house in Majorca, has become a local hero in Madrid and helped the side with the Champions League last year.
