There are normally a sprinkling of Burns' Suppers, celebrating the birth of Scotland's greatest poet, held here on Majorca - but there can have been few with quite such an international flavour as the one that took place in the Hideaway, Puerto Pollensa on Wednesday evening (wrong day, but the right place!) The menu was Scottish enough - Cullen Skink, Haggis, Dunelm Chicken and Drambuie Trifle but it had a certain Parisian flair that showed one of the chefs had definitely spent time in that city. Then the Yorkshire-born proprietor was joined by staff from Holland, France and New Zealand to place these delights in front of his English, Irish, Spanish, South African, American and German guests plus the Scots, of course, who else can address the noble Haggis with authenticity? (not to mention the right pronunciation). It was a grand night with enough whisky downed to set the Scottish economy straight and an impromptu whip round raised some cash for Josefina's animal refuge, too. Burns? Apart from having a whale of a time, I reckon he'd have written a poem about it.
