England and Real Madrid soccer star Steve McManaman looks set to be spending Christmas furnishing his new luxury house in Son Vida. The European Champion midfielder is a self confessed fan of the island and a regular visitor, when he first started to broker deals for his future playing in Spain for a move from Liverpool, it was Majorca and the Son Vida Hotel where he sought shelter when initial attempts to move to Spain were thwarted, but Macca, as he is now known in Spain, has fought hard and has become a hero with the fans at Real Madrid and is now the proud owner of a two-storey Son Vida home with a sea view and its own swimming pool, joining the Majorcan elite of international sports stars and personalities who live or have holiday homes on the island. It appears that the property has been purchased after lengthy negotiations with local estate agent Kuhn and Partner, who at first denied the rumours, but when presented with more information, had to confirm the property deal. It is believed that property negotiations started this summer while McManaman and his girlfriend spent a weekend at the Son Vida Hotel. However, the value of the property has not been revealed, but it was Kuhn and Partner who at the end of this summer reported that in Son Vida and other prime locations on the island, a square metre can cost as much as two million pesetas. However, McManaman, who is on a £60'000 per week contract at Real Madrid, would have had little problem meeting Majorca's house prices. Macca's England team-mate Graham LeSaux has also been house hunting on the island and Macca will be surrounded by some of the most powerful men in European football. Just up the road in Son Vida, Aston Villa chairman Doug Ellis has a luxury home and down the road in Andratx is Newcastle's Freddie Shepherd and Manchester United's Martin Edwards and in Puerto Portals Real Madrid president Florentino Perez moors his luxury yacht.
