The Soller transport sector will be allowed to continue enjoying discounts on the tunnel tolls next year. The Balearic Minister for Public Works, Josep Antoni Ferrer made the announcement yesterday, adding that in the New Year a formal agreement will be signed with the tunnel management company unlike the verbal agreement reached by the PP. The Soller transport sector have been unentitled to tunnel discounts since September 18 when the management company cancelled transport discounts after the government refused to settle the bill for concessions granted. However, the Balearic government is prepared to pay 25 million pesetas next year to cover the costs of the discounts. At the moment transport drivers are paying 895 pesetas for each journey through the tunnel, but once the discounts are reinstated, that toll will drop to 225 pesetas.
