Three killed in Palma accident

It was a tragic day on Palma's roads yesterday. Three people were killed in a traffic accident in the early hours of the morning outside a night club and later an elderly woman was knocked down and killed in the city centre. The car crash happened at 4.30am and two of the passengers, 33-year-old Brazilian woman Rosalía S.V. and 37-year-old Antonio M.V. were killed instantly while a third passenger, Sheila Oliver Alvarez, died early yesterday afternoon in Son Dureta hospital where she had been undergoing emergency treatment. The accident, which left four other people seriously injured, happened outside Pacha night club along the Paseo Maritimo and involved a head-on collision between a Peugeot 205, in which the three fatalities and one of the injured were travelling, and a BMW 328 with three people inside. Last night the only survivor from the Peugeot, 19-year-old Nel C.O., was in a serious condition in a Palma clinic and the three injured passengers travelling in the BMW, 31-year-old Mexican Jose Lluis R.B., 28-year-old Gerardo R.B and 28-year-old Sergio G., were being treated at clinics across the capital. According to the police, the accident occurred when the BMW, which was travelling in the direction of Porto Pi, for reasons as yet unconfirmed, collided with a street lamp. The impact of the collision apparently knocked the BMW off course and sent the vehicle careering across the central reservation, into the path of the Peugeot 205 which was heading for the centre of Palma. Police, ambulances and the fire service were at the scene within minutes and firemen had to cut three of the victims free from the tangled wreckage of the two vehicles.
