Six held in 40 million peseta ecstasy haul

The National Police confirmed yesterday that the drugs squad, which seized the largest haul of ecstasies ever in the Balearics on Saturday, have arrested six people in connection with the bust and have refused to rule out that further arrests may be made, in the Balearics and on the mainland. Police have a strong suspicion that the group, caught in the possession of 21'000 ecstasies with an estimated street value of over 40 million pesetas, is connected to a cartel operating on the mainland. Police are working closely with colleagues on the mainland to locate the brains behind the operation to ship hundreds of thousands of ecstasies, fabricated in Holland, into the Balearics. According to the police, the drug smuggling syndicate has a network of local dealers dotted across Majorca in places such as Alcudia, Inca and Palma along with a maze of pushers on the mainland.
