Next time you go to Calvia town hall you can leave your phrase book at home...many of the staff will soon be going to language courses and they will be learning both English and German. As a result of an agreement signed yesterday between the Balearic government and the Calvia council up to 50 council staff will be sent on language courses. Mayor Margarita Najera said that as Calvia was such a multi-lingual and multi-cultural place it was vital that staff could speak more than two languages, Castilian Spanish and Catalan. A local government spokesperson said that it was also vital that municipalities such as Ibiza or Ciutadella offer similar courses. Najera said that these days Calvia had a real European flavour. Almost 40 percent of children at the school in Capdella are non-Spanish Europeans.
