Francesc Antich, the chief minister of the Balearic government, defended the quality of traditional food products and the local cuisine at the opening of the 16th Mostra de Cuina or Majorcan Food Fair yesterday. He said that they demonstrated the power of simple things. Antich attended the opening of the fair, in the precinct in Calle Ciudad de Queretaro, on the Polígono de Levante, with his ministers of health and consumer affairs, Aina Salom; finance, commerce and industry, Pere Sampol, and tourism, Celestí Alomar. Also taking part were Maria Antonia Munar, president of the Council of Majorca, Joan Fageda, the Mayor of Palma, Josep Oliver, the president of the business federation CAEB, and Miquel Lladó, president of the Chamber of Commerce. Antoni Gil, the president of the Majorcan restaurateurs' association, welcomed his guests and thanked them for their support. Mayor Fageda said that the Food Fair was going from strength to strength and is an honour for Palma.
