Over 1'400 members of the army and police forces will be on duty tomorrow in the Balearics as the islands go to the polls in the general election. A total of 651.981 people in the Balearics have the right to vote and 372 polling booths will be set up. The majority of the security force needed to ensure that the day passes off without incident, with so many people on the move, will be the Guardia Civil, who will be working in close co-operation with the National Police, the local police and members of the armed forces. In Majorca over half a million people are expected to go to the polls; in Minorca 56'587; 65'366 in Ibiza and 4'232 on the smallest island Formentera; and this general election will welcome 45'821 first-time voters.
