The Spanish royal family announced yesterday that Princess Elena, second in line to the throne, is expecting her second child, due later this year, in the month of September. Elena, who is the eldest daughter of King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia, had her first son, Felipe Juan Froilan, in August 1998. The princess, in her mid-thirties, married aristocrat Jaime de Marichalar in 1995. Her younger sister, Princess Cristina, married Basque handball player Inaki Urdangarin in October 1997. She gave gave the king and queen a second grandson, another September baby, born in 1999. Crown Prince Felipe, heir to the throne, is the last unmarried member of the royal family.
