Michael Douglas is ready to open his hearth to Majorca

20-08-2013

Michael Douglas's life in and relationship with Majorca is about to enter a new era as, just months before he married Catherine Zeta-Jones, he opens his cultural center in Valldemossa. Wellcome to Costa Nord, an intiative which I hope will help you to get better acquainted with one of the most privileged places in the world. A place that has bewitched me from the very first moment with its fascinating landscape, culture and history. I am sure that this experience will be an excellent starting point to share my passion for a land so full of beauty and tradition, and with this, help create a cultural link between the inhabitants of the island and those who visit.” One hundred years after the Archduke Luis Salvador fell in love with Valldemossa and the serra Tramuntana, Michael Douglas hopes that he will be able to secure the region's beauty and tranquility for another 100 years. On March 25, the Hollyood Oscar-winner, whose relationship with the island started some 20 years ago when he bought S'Estaca, an estate built by the Austrian Archduke at the end of the 19th century, will inaugurate the Costa Nord cultural centre in Valldemossa. A £2.5 million project which he has funded and says is his way of “putting something back” into the island he loves. Just seven months ago, the site of the cultural centre lay untouched, a building and a garden and nothing else.
