The winters are getting colder in the Balearics and yesterday there was little difference between temperatures in Palma and temperatures in London, where the minimum managed to stay just above zero, unlike in the Balearics, where temperatures again fell below freezing with the threat of snow still hanging in the air. Ancient properties in the old part of Palma are collapsing under the freezing conditions and the agricultural industry in the heart of the island is again having to battle the effects of a big freeze. However, while many stayed indoors with the heating on maximum, the sight of a brief glimpse of sun and a clear sky brought a group of brave ladies, from Majorca, Poland and Britain out on to the beach for a mid-winter's swim. As the group of bikini-clad ladies leapt towards the sea, a few of the brave strolling along the seafront were lost for words. They stood and stared as the girls bounded into the water and dived into the crisp, blue Mediterranean sea.
