The number of beds in four star hotels in the Playa de Palma this summer will be 25 per cent higher this year, rising from the 4'500 beds registered with the Balearic tourism ministry in 1999 to nearly 6'000, according to sources from the local hostelry association. Miquel Vidal, chairman of the Playa de Palma hoteliers association, said that any changes in this respect were highly positive and were occurring throughout the popular resort which stretches from Can Pastilla to Arenal. He added that it would lead to an improvement in quality, make it easier to market and attract big spending tourists. Hotels which are now being refurbished so that they can raise their category to four stars are the Neptuno, Riu, San Francisco, CID and Flamingo. The existing four star hotels are the Garonda, Delta, Golden Playa, Royal Cristina, Leman, Playa Golf, Riu Bravo, Riu Festival and Taurus Park.
