Mallorca is home to a growing number of smoke-free beaches, with local councils encouraging cleaner coastlines and healthier public spaces. The “Playas Sin Humo” initiative was introduced to reduce cigarette litter on beaches, protect marine ecosystems, and create more family-friendly environments across some of the islands’ most popular seaside destinations. While enforcement varies between municipalities, visitors are increasingly likely to see smoke-free signs at beaches throughout the region.

In Mallorca, several well-known beaches are included in the smoke-free network. In Alcudia, Sant Joan beach is part of the initiative, while Andratx includes Camp de Mar and Sant Elm. Arta lists Sa Platgeta and the Desembocadura Torrent des Parral, and Calvia includes Es Carregador in Palmanova, Santa Ponsa beach, and La Romana beach in Paguera. Other participating beaches across Mallorca include Cala Estellencs in Estellencs, along with Cala Ferrera, Cala Marçal, Cala Mitjana, Cala Sa Nau, Cala Serena, and S’Arenal de Portocolom in Felanitx.

Many of Mallorca’s best-known resort beaches and coves are also included. In Manacor, smoke-free beaches include Cala Anguila, Es Domingos Gran, Es Domingos Petit, S’Illot, Cala Murada, Porto Cristo, Cala Mendia, Cala Antena, and S’Estany d’en Mas. Palma includes Cala Estància and the Es Molinar bathing zone, while Pollensa includes Formentor, Albercutx, Cala Barques, and Cala Molins. Additional beaches in the initiative include Son Bauló and Ca’n Picafort beaches in Santa Margalida, Caló des Moro in Santanyi, Cala Galiota and Es Port in Ses Salines, Mònaco beach in Soller, and Cala Millor in Son Servera.

The smoke-free beach network also extends across the other Balearic Islands. Ibiza includes beaches such as Cala Sant Vicent and Platja des Port de Sant Miquel in Sant Joan de Labritja, as well as Cala d’Hort, Platges de Comte, Es Cavallet, Es Migjorn / Ses Salines, and Es Bol Nou in Sant Josep de sa Talaia. Caló des Moro in Sant Antoni de Portmany is also included. In Menorca, participating beaches include Cala Binissafúller, Platja de Binibèquer Nou, Platja de Cala Alcalafar, and Platja de Punta Prima in Sant Lluís, while Formentera includes Platja des Pujols.
