Aldi, the German supermarket chain, is set to employ 163 new staff in 2026, marking a 62% increase from its current 260-strong workforce in the Balearics. This growth further strengthens the retailer’s footprint in the archipelago, where it operates 17 stores: 14 in Mallorca, two in Menorca and one in Ibiza.
The expansion follows the opening of Aldi’s first supermarket in the s'Arenal area in January. The company continues to support local businesses, maintaining relationships with around 20 local suppliers, featuring close to 50 Balearic-made products on its shelves.
This development aligns with Aldi’s broader growth strategy across Spain, which includes plans to open 40 new stores and hire over 1,100 additional workers nationwide next year. With this, Aldi aims to exceed 9,000 employees and reach more than 500 outlets across the country. Over the past three years, staff numbers in Spain have already increased by more than 14%.
Aldi’s low-price model is underpinned by a strong focus on own-brand products and national sourcing. At the new Aldi supermarket in S’Arenal, nine out of ten items on sale are own-label, while eight out of ten are sourced nationally. In the Balearics, this commitment to local sourcing is reflected in partnerships with around 20 local producers, supplying close to 50 Balearic-made products to its stores. These include wines from local wineries such as Pere Seda and Macià Batle, as well as products carrying the Binissalem Designation of Origin.
Across its various departments, customers can find around 400 fresh items, including fruit, vegetables, meat and fish. Alongside food products, Aldi also highlights its “Aldi Bazaar” section, which features weekly special buys in homeware, décor and DIY items, with new lines introduced every Wednesday and Saturday.
