In a groundbreaking study by Spain's leading consumer organisation OCU, Mercadona's facial hydrating gel has emerged as a top performer amongst moisturisers, challenging the notion that effective skincare requires substantial investment. The product, priced at approximately 5 euros, has demonstrated remarkable results when tested against considerably more expensive alternatives.

The comprehensive analysis, which evaluated 16 different facial creams across various price points, has revealed that this affordable option matches or exceeds the performance of products costing up to six times more. The testing criteria included moisture retention capabilities, ingredient quality, user satisfaction, label transparency, and packaging sustainability.

The OCU's rigorous assessment focused on key aspects of moisturiser performance, with particular attention to hydration retention - crucial for maintaining skin elasticity and vitality throughout the day. The blue facial gel showed exceptional results in maintaining consistent moisture levels, comparable to premium-priced competitors.

The gel's formulation includes latest-generation hyaluronic acid, known for its superior water-retention properties, and aloe vera, valued for its soothing characteristics. Additionally, it contains Imperata Cylindrica extract, a plant-based ingredient recognised for providing lasting hydration.

A standout feature highlighted in the OCU report is the product's lightweight, aqueous texture. Unlike heavier creams, it absorbs quickly without leaving any greasy residue, making it suitable for use under makeup or for touch-ups throughout the day. The 50ml container, priced at approximately 5 euros, represents exceptional value for money, particularly given its performance in professional testing.
