Farage, a dangerous choice for top job

“With all due respect to the great Bulletin readers who voted in our poll I do not understand the fascination with Nigel Farage.”

A recent Bulletin opinion poll said that Nigel Farage would be Britain’s next Prime Minister. The Mayor of Manchester, Andy Burnham, who wants to replace Sir Keir Starmer as Prime Minister, was a close second.

To be honest, and it is probably due to the fact that I don’t live in Britain, I don’t really understand the fascination with Farage (or Burnham, for that matter!). Farage looks and acts like a second-hand car dealer. He knows what the great British public wants to hear and says it again, and again and again.

Apart from “stopping the boats” I am not aware of any of Reform’s policies. He never appears to be in parliament and there are allegations that he is never in his constituency of Clacton. He is also alleged to have taken a large donation (personal) from a billionaire who lives in Thailand. So what is the fascination with Farage? That he says it like it is and he likes a pint?

Former Prime Minister Boris Johnson (not one of my favourites either) was good at the “one-liners” and also liked a drink, but what a disaster he was as Prime Minister. Looking at the state of Britain at the moment I would say that a “safe pair of hands” is needed not a gamble on a man who could easily quit and move to Thailand!
