We need to hit President Donald Trump where it hurts. His outrageous outbursts about Britain, the British people and the British armed forces have turned the special relationship into the nasty relationship.. I sincerely wish that someone would get up and tell him to take a running jump.
Britain should mount a two-pronged attack: cancel the official visit by King Charles and also, as the Royal Navy is so old and broken, then the aircraft carrier, Prince of Wales, should stay in Portsmouth and not head to the United States for the independence celebrations.
Trump needs to learn that you can’t treat your oldest ally in this way and then expect the best from them. I am sure that Britain’s standing in the world, which has taken a battering after following the United States into wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, would increase.
If Prime Minister Keir Starmer doesn’t have the courage to do so, then Britain must find someone who does. The royal visit is the icing on the cake for Trump and his group of desperadoes but if I were King Charles, I would feel very insulted by the U.S. President and his treatment of Britain. The time has come for Britain to stand up to Trump and give him what he deserves.
