This is a warning to anyone using Palma airport; prepare for a long walk from your plane to the arrivals hall. I was one of a group of passengers on Sunday who literally walked miles at the airport, a feat which I would say many elderly travellers or parents with young children would be unable to perform. My advice to more mature people who don’t fancy the walk would be to book assisted travel, if they can obviously. What happened to me on Sunday was little short of outrageous.
A 20-minute walk after a flight of one hour. This situation is not acceptable and the airport authorities should take note. If the airport was busy, then I would be a little more understanding, but it was empty. I just don’t understand why the aircraft can’t park closer to the arrivals area. It is not rocket science. As I wandered through the long corridors, my heart went out to parents with young families and elderly passengers; it must have been a marathon for them.
Palma airport has a reputation for long walks, but they now appear to be even longer. Something needs to be done and fast. The season is just about to start and I would urge the airport authorities to have a rethink. Passenger comfort must come first and not last.
