Dear sirs,
I've been following this developing story for a while as a lover of our Majorcan holiday. I have a lot of sympathy for the hospitality staff among other local people who appear to be suffering ever increasing property prices amongst other issues but please don't blame us tourists, everyone is entitled to a holiday, it's your government and councillors who are to blame.
In my opinion there is an easy answer to the problem. Ban Airbnb and private rentals completely. Anyone visiting should only be allowed to stay in a recognised hotel , thus giving the hospitality staff employment and taking away the greed of landlords who can outbid locals to buy up property to rent and line their own pockets at locals expense .
If the demand for buying property to rent out was lowered then so would the property prices, thus making it more affordable for local people to buy houses. It just needs someone in authority to have a back bone and support the average worker.
