Britain has at last woken up to the fact that there are now longer queues at immigration desks at European Union airports and it now takes longer to clear points of entry. Palma airport is a classic example and unless more staff are recruited there will be long queues on arrival. There are two points that hit me about this state of affairs.
Firstly, why weren´t British travellers informed that as their passports are now being stamped it takes longer to clear immigration. Passports are stamped because of the new ninety day rule. Secondly, you would have thought that European Union airports with plenty of British flights would have prepared for this state of affairs because the Brexit referendum did take place over six years ago. The then Prime Minister David Cameron did warn during the Brexit referendum campaign that European holidays and travel would change but his comments were dismissed as “Project Fear.”
Probably one of the biggest challenges of Brexit at the moment is travel. I waited in a queue for 30 minutes when I returned from the UK at Christmas and there was only one British flight. Going out the airline representative had to find the police officer to check our passports. In these days of modern technology, there must be an easier way. For the time being we are just going to have wait in queue
