Trump's visit

|

Go home Mr. Trump. I don't think we really want to see you. The US president arrives this week in Britain, which he says is in turmoil. "I have NATO, I have the UK, which is in somewhat turmoil, and I have Putin," Trump said of his trip. "Frankly, Putin may be the easiest of them all. Who would think?" Yes Mr. Trump, but remember that Britain is one of your closest allies, NATO is full of your allies and I thought that Putin was meant to be none of the above.

The rhetoric from the president towards Britain has not been good. Trump appears to be involved in a private war of words with the Mayor of London Sadiq Khan, his administration wants Britain to increase defence spending otherwise the US will snub Britain and join forces with the French, he has been very critical about Britain's anti-terrorism performance ... the list goes on. All I say is that with friends like Trump who needs enemies. I think you can safely say that the special relationship with the US is well and truly over as long as Trump remains in the White House and in fact I would say that Britain has been treated far better by its European neighbours, despite Brexit, than by the US.

So Trump should be given a "cool welcome" to Britain. Yes, Brexit may have taken its toll on the British government but the government has also stood tall on many issues which the Trump administration has elected to ignore.
