It had to come eventually and it looks like it’s going to be business as usual with regards to winter 2017 and summer 2018.
As figures have indicated over the past few months, Greece and Turkey have become extremely popular again with the UK holiday market, they have with the Germans as well and the Germans are even venturing back to Egypt.
Greece was the most sought after destination online in the UK this year as the country’s tourist industry and ministry fights hard to attract holidaymakers back after all its recent troubles. The same can be said about Turkey and Egpyt, although the latter remains a bit unsafe.
And now, while Croatia and Bulgaria have been plugging ever greater gaps in the market, Tunisia, a big favourite with the British and the Germans is back online with some extremely attractive late offers available and the country tries to make the most of what is left of this year’s summer season and the forthcoming winter.
One thing is for sure that millions of "borrowed tourists", as to which even the Balearic government have referred, are going to have a much larger holiday market to choose from this winter and next summer and, as ever, price is going to be king.
Over pricing, poor quality, extensive security queues at airports and a mounting anti-tourism movement is not going to help Majorca or the Balearics in general, so I think it’s time the local authorities get off their laurels.
