Deal or no deal?

|

Scotland looks determined to have another referendum on independence. Perhaps the UK should follow suit on Brexit because I think, since the knee-jerk vote to leave, a large number of people have come to realise the extremely delicate, complicated and potentially dangerous situation Britain will find itself in once it has turned its back on Europe.

However, it could all be too late come today following last night’s vote, so the government better start getting its thinking caps on and fast. Perhaps David Cameron, last seen enjoying the rugby on Saturday, could be brought back into the fold to help sort out the mess he made and then dumped on his successor as quickly as he could.

Tory bruiser David Davis made it blatantly clear over the weekend that the government still does not have a clear exit plan. Davis insisted that the UK would be prepared, if it has to leave the EU at the end of the two-year negotiating process with no deal in place with the other 27 nations.

Foreign secretary Boris Johnson said that "no deal" would be "perfectly ok" and that the consequences were not "as apocalyptic as some people like to pretend", while the prime minister has said she would rather take the UK out of the EU with no deal rather than a "bad deal".

This does not sound very convincing to me and the EU power states are not going to make life easy for the UK around the negotiating table.
