Discover the other side of Majorca, the side you have probably not seen before. This was the message from the Balearic tourism authorities in a presentation to the British media on low season tourism at the Balearic stand at the World Travel Market tourism fair in London. It seems rather remarkable that even though British tourists have been coming to Majorca for more than 50 years (in big numbers), there is still so much of the island that they are not familiar with. The local authorities have produced a video which centres on the joys of Majorca in the winter from hiking to cycling. And of course there is so much more. But in the same way as there is more to Majorca than just the sun and the sea there is more in the winter than just cycling and hiking. If Majorca wants more winter tourists then the local fairs and cuisine and of course the usually mild weather need to play a central role. We all know that Majorca can easily be an all year around holiday destination but a central plan is needed which takes into account everything from cycling to fairs. Sport is a fantastic winter holiday pursuit on the island but so is a nice menu del dia in a restaurant after a trip to a local market or fair. The other side of Majorca probably has more than the side which is known to all. It is amazing that there is still so much to discover.
