I don´t really understand why Palma council appears to be deeply opposed to the bar and restaurant terraces which have been set up along the Paseo del Borne in Palma. I would say that the terraces have helped bring this iconic part of Palma to life and also give tourists yet another attraction to enjoy. Everyone is agreed that the terraces are a step forward; well almost everyone. The council is not impressed and has done its best to get the chairs and tables removed. First, a referendum was held and the terraces won. Then the council ordered that the chairs and tables be removed to make space for the Palma Book Fair.
I am sure that the council could have found another venue for the fair, which cost the owners of the bars and restaurants a small fortune in lost trade. I must admit that an evening drink at one of the terraces is fantastic, although I do find the prices rather high, but that is another story. The council must realise that everything should be done to make Palma as tourist friendly as possible. Also, tourists should be able to enjoy the "Palma experience". The terraces form part of the new-look Palma and the council should support them rather than trying to make life difficult for the bar and restaurant owners. Palma is a fantastic place and was recently voted the best place to live in the world by The Sunday Times. The Borne has been brought to life again and everyone is happy; except the council of course.
