Well, after the mayhem of the last couple of weeks it does appear that Britain has started to "stabilise" with a new prime minister being sworn. Theresa May would not have been my choice as PM (I would have stuck with David Cameron) but at least Britain has a leader.
She has a nightmare scenario negotiating a trade deal with the European Union, but I would ask her to try and give some assurances to the thousands of British expats who are living on the European continent and who fear for their future. The British government is attempting to try and give expats some peace of mind but that is not enough. We really want to know what will be our status once the divorce from the EU has taken place. I also think that the British government should try and help British expats on a bigger scale, because at the end of the day we are the people who have been most affected by Britain's decision to leave the EU.
The British Embassy in Madrid is doing a good job but more still needs to be done: not from Madrid but from London. We are in a difficult situation and there is plenty of concern across the expat community in Spain. I sincerely hope that May will be holding talks with the Spanish government in the not too distant future, with the fate of British expats top of the agenda.
