The European Union referendum in Britain has increasingly centred around immigration. As an immigrant to another European Union country myself, I believe that without immigration the EU would grind to a standstill. Immigration has changed the face of Europe for the better. Take London. There are now thousands of young Spaniards working across the British capital adding to the great cosmopolitan mix. Take Majorca. There are hundreds of British-owned businesses operating here, proving that the EU is good for business. Imagine the drama and the heartache which a British exit would cause for hundreds of British-owned businesses: their staff may need work permits and obviously the whole employment process would be a lot more difficult.
In Britain it is evident that without immigration the country would simply not work. What is the problem with EU citizens going to another member state in search of a new life? After all that is why many Britons moved to Spain. It is complete madness to believe that if Britain left the EU everything would be the same. I sincerely hope that the British people realise the benefits of EU membership and how this is reflected in our everyday lives. Yes, Britain could probably stand alone and close its borders to the world but I don´t think that is the British way. Britain is an economic powerhouse thanks, in part, to immigration.
