KING Felipe VI yesterday met leading local politicians on the first day of his summer holiday at Marivent Palace with Queen Letizia and their two daughters, on the outskirts of Palma.
One common thread through all of the meetings that were held was that Palma Council and the Balearic government would like to see at least the gardens of Marivent Palace opened to the public to help off set the cost of up keep of the palace to local tax payers and, it appears, that the King is open to discussing the idea further.
I think it is a great idea. People love palaces, even Buckingham Palace is opened to the public every summer, souvenir shop included, the same could eventually be offered to the general public and tourists at Marivent Palace,
Millions of people travel the world to visit royal palaces, especially ones which are still being used and Marivent has a rich and interesting history of visitors as guests of the royals.
Its location is unique with splendid views over the Bay of Palma and the garden’s a delight, even if you have not got green fingers, it is the whole experience of being on the grounds of a royal palace which is not a monument but a functioning establishment.
The current King and Queen of Spain have turned the royal popularity polls around and people will be queuing to get through the gates of the palace once they are opened.
