Calvia Council has revealed plans to invest 6.7 million euros to complete the second phase of the Gabriel Escarrer Juliá Seafront Promenade and upgrade the road surface and drainage systems in Punta Ballena and adjacent streets in Magalluf. The announcement was made during the council's participation in London's World Travel Market, where officials confirmed that the Punta Ballena works will commence in November 2026, a date strategically chosen to minimise impact on the tourist season in one of Mallorca's most popular destinations.
This ambitious regeneration project draws funding from multiple sources, including the Sustainable Tourism Tax (ITS), municipal resources, and European Next Generation EU funds allocated through the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan. The second phase of modernising the Gabriel Escarrer Juliá Promenade will begin this winter 2025, with both phases representing a total investment of 6.2 million euros. The initiative has been developed in partnership with Spain's Ministry of Industry and Tourism and the Tourism Department of the Balearic Government.
Juan Antonio Amengual, Mayor of Calvia, emphasised the significance of these improvements, stating: "They will be another step forward in the renovation and modernisation of Magalluf. We've planned a winter works schedule to minimise effects on the tourism sector. With the seafront promenade renovation, Punta Ballena upgrades, the demolition of Hotel Teix, and the Roads and Works plan, Magaluf is a destination that's committed to quality."
These investments build upon previous work under the 'Calvià Millora' plan, which has already allocated 7 million euros for initial improvements to Magalluf's Avenida s'Olivera. Currently, works are underway on Calle Blanc, with a budget exceeding 200,000 euros, as part of the council's comprehensive strategy to regenerate this emblematic tourist area.
Sports facilities receive substantial investment
The council has also announced a significant 1.2 million euros investment to upgrade the municipality's sports facilities, a key initiative to enhance urban quality, social infrastructure, and strengthen Calvia's reputation as a sporting destination.
Municipal representatives highlighted the economic impact and reputational benefits of this investment. Calvia's exceptional weather conditions attract numerous visitor groups from around the world who choose the area for year-round training and sports activities, further diversifying the tourism offering beyond the traditional sun and beach model.
