Eurowings, the German airline serving the Balearics, is set to roll out business-class seating across its Airbus A320neo aircraft. This move aims to meet evolving passenger demands for enhanced comfort on medium-haul flights, including popular destinations such as Mallorca and London.
The plan involves installing a 2x2 seating configuration in the first two rows, replacing the usual 2x3 layout and introducing a total of eight premium seats per plane. The announcement was made at the start of the International Travel Trade Show (ITB) during a press event on Monday, signalling a strategic shift towards improved onboard offerings on shorter routes.
This decision follows a successful market test initiated in November 2025, when one Airbus A320neo configured with the new seating served the Berlin–Dubai route. A second aircraft was later deployed on other journeys. According to Eurowings, passenger feedback was largely positive, highlighting increased legroom and personal space.
Max Kownatzki, the Eurowings CEO, indicated that the airline will soon finalise its network and fleet plans. It is confirmed that all eight A320neos in their current fleet will receive the upgraded seats. Intended routes include not only longer medium-haul sectors but also connections to key European cities and high-demand leisure destinations like the Balearics and the Canary Islands.
The new seating is sourced from Italian manufacturer Geven. Features to enhance the passenger experience include adjustable leg rests, USB charging ports, and an expanded service package consisting of a hot meal and additional beverages.
Eurowings positions itself as a 'value' carrier and aims to stand out in the European market by offering improved onboard comfort. This contrasts with the industry trend, where many airlines seek to maximise seat count on short and medium-haul aircraft.
