Savour the City: Palma’s artisan coffee scene

Palma has a thriving café culture, with passionate baristas serving single-origin brews and expertly crafted espressos

| Palma |

There’s no better way to discover—or for locals to rediscover—Palma than to wander between Palma’s sun-drenched plazas and stroll through the charming streets of this beautiful city and stopping in one of the many vibrant cafes, to soak up the atmosphere. Palma has a thriving café culture, with passionate baristas serving single-origin brews and expertly crafted espressos. When you fancy a break from shopping or sightseeing, here’s my suggestions of some of the best coffee shops in the city.

Hotto

For coffee purists, Hotto Coffee Lab is a revelation. This sleek, Japanese-inspired café is serious about its craft, offering precision-brewed pour-overs and expertly crafted espresso drinks. Interesting sandwiches with Japanese milk bread.

The Barn

Straight from Berlin’s famed coffee scene, The Barn has brought its expertise to Palma, offering a serious take on speciality coffee. Their beans are ethically sourced and roasted with care, ensuring a complex and balanced cup. Very small, but sweet.

Mistral Coffee House

Tucked away in a quiet street near Plaça Major, Mistral Coffee Roasters pioneered Mallorca’s speciality coffee movement. First established in 2013, if you’re looking for a coffee experience rooted in passion and craftsmanship, Mistral is the place to be, offering wide array of beans roasted on the spot.

They make their own healthful cookies which are delicious!! There is also a shop offering Ayurvedic plant-based potions and earth conscious creations.

Mama Carmen’s

Mama Carmen’s is family owned, sourcing their coffee from great roasters like Hola Coffee and La Cabra. A traditional interior with beautiful elegant tiles and vintage furniture. They offer delicious healthy breakfast bowls and toasts, as well as brunch and home made cakes and pastries. A great array of other beverages including Matcha, Chai and cold pressed juices.

Cappuccino

I couldn’t not include the Cappuccino Group which can be found throughout Mallorca in many of the key hot spots. This super successful chain championed the emergence of the speciality coffee scene, although now on the pricier side for a coffee or brunch. Never-the-less the venues are always beautiful with one of my favourites off Calle San Miguel with a beautiful interior and garden courtyard.
