Winter on the island
Dear Sir,
My wife and I are Majorca veterans of some 35 years. We love the island very much and summer 2014 we did a multi-resort tour of the island, starting in Palmanova for 3 days where we hired a car, next stop 2 days in Soller, then 2 days in Pollensa, then 3 days at Cala Bona followed by 2 days in Cala d’Or and finally back to Palmanova for 2 days.
We both agreed it was one of our best holidays ever! But the reason I’m bothering to write in, is, the winter market, which over the years we’ve enjoyed especially at New Year.
Now, since Thomsons and others started shutting down hotels at the end of October such as Santa Lucia, Cala Blanca, Hawaii, Palmanova Palace, Palmanova Hotel, and just about all the others as well, this amounts to approximately 6-7 thousand people less than normal around the resort, and then, as you would expect, the vast majority of the bars and restaurants shut up shop for 4 months instead of just February.
My question is, can the holiday companies be persuaded to try and re-open for November - December just to start, and see how it goes. I know we’d come back for sure.
The weather is usually very pleasant, and the entertainment used to be very good indeed, the Santa Lucia used to have s ix acts on New Years. Please, canvass these holiday companies so that the island can maybe return to the halcyon days it used to enjoy.
Yours faithfully
Anthony Kinsey
