Dear Sir,
I recently read a speech given by Tony Blair when he was MP for Sedgefield, in which he outlined his vision for Europe.
In this he stated that “Britain should not be a manufacturing country but should concentrate on IT and Finance, both of which by nature can be done anywhere in the world !
To my mind, without manufacturing we are not self sufficient.
Without selfsufficiency we cannot be self governing.
Maybe this is precisely what he intended!

Dear Sir,
The Chinese Government resents British involvement in Hong Kong affairs specifically over the student movement towards more democracy (Daily B Wednesday).
As Britain controlled the place from 1842 until 1997 one wonders why we didn’t install democracy then.
Could it be that the Sir Humphreys of the Foreign Office don’t like democracy?
Especially when it is in our own colonial backyard but they mischievously encouraged it among our Arab enemies like Afghanistan, Iraq, Iran, Libya and Syria.
Is it not even more necessary among our Arab friends such as Abu Dhabi, Bahrain, Egypt, Kuwait, Qatar and Saudi Arabia?
Look where it’s got us, and them, with these “Arab Spring” ventures.
