By Jason Moore,
WHERE is the Christmas spirit in Palma this year? The Christmas shopping countdown is already underway but you get the impression that the city council appears to have forgotten about Christmas this year. The Christmas lights are still not on and so far the city council has not announced the festive line-up. This year the hard-hit high street needs all the help it can get and the city council should be giving them their full support through campaigns such as free concerts and street entertainers. I know we are still at the end of November and Christmas is still a long way off but a bit more festive spirit wouldn´t go amiss. Why isn´t the local tourist industry trying to encourage more people to come to the island over the Christmas period? I know that it has been a difficult summer season and money is short but I am convinced that more people would come here for Christmas if there were special tailored packages. Many local businesses are making a great effort this festive season and they deserve some support. Come on Palma council get your act together and give us a festive treat. It could be the last opportunity for many local businesses to make some money before the start of a long and difficult New Year.
