THE sun and this unseasonal weather sometimes helps shield you from the serious problems which many expatriates are having at the moment. A number of popular events have been cancelled simply because local residents are feeling the pinch. The poor summer season, the drop in the value of sterling and the prospect of a second year of recession are all causing plenty of problems in the run-up to the festive period.
There isn´t much good news about at the moment although the organisers of the various expatriate events which have taken place, or will be taking place, should be congratulated for all their hard work and dedication. What I would like to say is that those people who are suffering in these financial hard times should be aware that help is at hand. There are plenty of associations and charities which can come to your aid. Those people who have enough pennies in the bank should also be aware that this Christmas, probably more so than ever, is the time to give. Every euro you give to charity will help someone be it your neighbour or a fellow expat Briton. This Christmas should be a time of solidarity with the English-speaking community joining together to face the future.
