TIME FOR ACTION

By Jason Moore

I would like to echo the sentiments of Revd. Robert Ellis in his column in today´s newspaper over the demise of the Majorca branch of the Royal British Legion. It is a great shame that the island has lost this important institution, simply because no-one has come forward to run-it.

Majorca has established a very good reputation with the British armed forces by helping injured servicemen. Literally scores of injured British soldiers and Marines have come to the island thanks to the Help for Heroes Charity and the generosity of the local community. The British expatriate community has shown that it has a big heart and is willing to help those who have been injured on active service. But at the same time we have lost our branch of the British Legion. We need a British Legion on the island.

There are many retired servicemen and women who need the support and assistance which is given by the Legion. Also, thousands of euros were sent every year from Majorca to Britain thanks to all the fundraising events which have taken place on the island. Now is the time for action, the Legion needs to raise its standard again on Majorca.

I am more than willing to help and I am sure that there are hundreds of others like me. I know for a fact that the Legion operates very successfully on Minorca and it should be doing the same on Majorca.

If anyone is interested in restablishing the Royal British Legion on Majorca, please contact me at the Bulletin on 971788412 or jmoore@majorcadailybulletin.es
