SUCCESSIVE Balearic governments have spent heavily on trying to improve the public transport network in Majorca. We now have a metro, a first rate train service bus routes across the island. I would say that public transport in Majorca is almost world class.
Unfortunately, most Majorcans are still very much in love with their cars and show no real interest in catching the bus. This is a great pity because sooner or later the road network will have to be enlarged once again. The Via Cintura ringroad around Palma is a nightmare during rush-hour, meanwhile, trains and buses pass half empty. What a great shame. There are plans to further improve the public transport network but I would urge the local authorities to save their money.
The car is king and until legislation is introduced which favour public transport over the car I can´t see this state of affairs changing. Meanwhile, to those who do use public transport my advice is enjoy, at least you are making an effort.
