SO Real Mallorca football club are without a manager after Michael Laudrup walked out on the club on Tuesday. It is a great shame that he has left because apart from being a great player, I reckon he was a good manager and kept Mallorca in top flight football last season (just!!). The problem at Real Mallorca is there is little money to spend on new players.
I think you can safely say that Laudrup this season had a weakend squad simply because there was little money available for new signings. Real Mallorca are still in administration and its financial position is not helped by the fact that fewer than 12'000 fans attend each game on a Sunday, but that is another story. But returning to Laudrup, the former Real Madrid and Barcelona player added a rather international feel to the club. I have often joked with our Mallorca correspondent Monro Bryce that he was Mallorca's best player and he couldn´t get a game. So, now Mallorca have to find a new manager and this will be no easy task. Perhaps, Chairman Serra Ferrer, who has managed Mallorca before, will return! I doubt it. I think the best thing that the fans can do is get behind the club and hope that a new manager arrives soon and that new players can be bought when the transfer window reopens again.
We are very lucky to have a football club which is in the First Division. Mallorca has its problems but most could be easily resolved. Laudrup will be missed but managers don't score goals!
