F OR the United States Tennis Association (USTA) which runs the US Open but this year has shown distinct signs of an inability to do so efficiently and with due concern for players and public. Flushing Meadows hosts the only Grand Slam tournament to lack a covered main court and has been caught out this year with torrential rains and by failing to anticipate that today is not in reserve because of 9/11 commemorations. The mens' final is now set for 9pm local time tomorrow -- unless there is more rain.
