I am quite amazed that a majority property development on mainland Spain is saying that the property market in Spain is no longer as buoyant as it once was. Infact it could be argued that they are rather shooting themselves in the foot! However, all official figures point to the fact that the Balearics is bucking the trend nationwide with property prices gradually increasing which is excellent news for the local economy. The number of holiday home owners continues to rise, according to official figures. For this very important market to continue to develop I feel that the local authorities need to make the legislation on property rental much clearer. Ofcourse, if you are a second home owner with perhaps a large mortgage, renting out your property where you are absent can be a major source of revenue. Every year the local authorities appear to be cracking down but to this day many people are still in the darking and are left wondering what they should do. Surely the necessary legislation should be available to everyone perhaps in their own language. I can understand hoteliers say that they these so-called illegal lets are robbing them of revenue but perhaps the local authorities should take some of the blame as well. Clear and precise legislation, please, it is certainly needed.
Clear guidelines please
